Taris~ Our First "Awesome Kid!"
Taris had a great week last week and was chosen as our first "Awesome Kid." This means she got to sit at her desk all day with a selection of books and puzzles that were just for her to use. Her sister even got to come visit. I was amazed when Taris put together one of the brain teaser puzzles! So proud of you Taris!

What Do We Do All Day?
I know you all must be wondering what we do all day! As a mom of a third grader, I wonder the same thing. Let me tell you, we never stop! We get a lot of work and learning done in the short amount of time we have together.
1. We read. We read voraciously. (your child will know what that means) If we find any free second, we read. Then they take Reading Counts quizzes and earn point. Points earn them rewards.

2. We work like crazy. I have encouraged all the student to do their best on assignments and focus during lessons.
3. We collect Box Tops for Education. Keep them coming!
4. We relax. Kids can sit in the classroom recliner to read or learn. Sitting in the recliner is a Reading Counts reward.
5. We sit on our sensory seats. Instead of chairs, some students can sit on a sensory ball. This has been shown to help with focus and attention.
6. We listen to music. For years I have been listening to Gary Lamb. Listening to music is great for focus and helping us learn all we can.
7. We smell good things! I love candles and melted wax! I always have something good to smell in the classroom.

Update
We're all done with our SAT 10 testing! We are all so happy that's over. Next week we'll begin our Reading Rounds and will return to spelling. I have added the challenge list to the Spelling City activities. Be sure to study those words! It was great seeing some of you at the school carnival and book fair! I look forward to meeting the rest of you at parent teacher conferences. Feel free to stop by or email me any time!

Germinating Seedlings
We got to get the chance to germinate seeds in science this week. Last week we placed 5 each of radish, corn, sunflower, and pinto bean seeds on a wet paper towel. Wow! They germinated quick! The kids loved seeing the seed leaves and the germination of a seed and growing a seedling.
